Cartographer, geographer, published numerous descriptive works, books and maps, particularly on France (descriptif géographique du Royaume de France). On his death in 1699, he bequeathed his 32,000 engravings, books and maps to the Abbaye Saint Victor, whose holdings were transferred to the Bibliothèque Nationale during the French Revolution.
