Fiction novel first published in 1919, featuring "Grandgoujon", a bon vivant character unprepared for life's accidents, unprepared to become a soldier in the 1st World War.
* RENE BENJAMIN: prolix and very important author of the 1920 / 1945 period, writer, journalist and lecturer (1400 conferences) throughout France and the colonies. GONCOURT PRIZE 1915 for his novel Gaspard, which he wrote at Bretonneau Hospital in Tours, where he was seriously wounded at Verdun in September 1914. Admitted to the Académie Goncourt in 1938, friend of Maurras and Léon Daudet.
Born in Paris on March 20, 1885, died in Tours on October 4, 1948, at the Clinique Saint Gatien.
* Auguste Roubille: engraver, draughtsman, painter, caricaturist, poster artist (1872-1955).
