CHINE DES ORIGINES - Tribute to Lionel Jacob (1910 - 1992). "As early as the 2nd century AD, a Chinese historian conceived of human evolution in four stages: Paleolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age. In the 11th century, archaeological surveys were carried out in Henan. The first scientific catalogs followed. But the real modern adventure began in the 1920s with the discovery of "Peking Man". Since then, the revelations have not ceased. In France, a number of scholars set out to follow these developments. Lionel Jacob was one of them. Thanks to the bequest of his collection to the public domain, we are now able to see a mirror of ancient China". Catalog of the exhibition presented at the Musée National des Arts Asiatiques Guimet, Paris, from December 5, 1194 to March 6, 1995 - 205 pages - 27 x 21 cm. Prologue presents archaeological research in China, with precursors such as Teihard de Chardin, Abbé Breuil... the Neolithic, the Bronze Age, the Empire. Presentation, often full-page, of the 72 works on display, with extensive commentary and explanation. Epilogue by Jean Paul Desroches on China and its philosophy and history. Chronology and glossary, bibliography, past exhibitions, index of works exhibited and names cited.
