note: on July 15, 1808, Marshal MURAT, the most famous of the Imperial Marshals, Grand Duke of Berg and husband of Caroline Bonaparte, was appointed King of Naples by the Emperor under the name of Joachim Napoleon. Due to Murat's presence in the armies, the government actually fell to Caroline, who ran the country to perfection. On FERDINAND IV's orders, Murat was arrested and sentenced to death, executed on October 13, 1815.
