BOOK - by Bernard Verwaerde - Charles Corlet Ed 1994 - 30 x 21 cm - 221 pages. LE TERROIR NORMAND, LES INSTRUMENTS de la VIE RURALE en NORMANDIE. The author, a native of Beuzeville in the heart of Normandy, has experienced the progressive replacement of the horse by the machine and the hand by mechanization. He wanted to rediscover the familiar objects of his youth, which gave rhythm to the lives of our elders: the old tools of the soil. He criss-crossed the countryside, working like an ethnologist to preserve traditions and record techniques, saving thousands of old tools and other objects from oblivion, which are now on display at the Musée du Terroir Normand in Caugé. This book lists 327 tools, machines and farm implements, photographed and explained along with their use: winnowing, animals, veterinary care by animal, harnessing, cider, milk, butter, bread, washing, wood - a glossary of technical terms and dialect.
