"publisher's note - the speed with which this book was composed, the conditions under which it was printed, by makeshift means, without gas or electricity, led to a number of typographical errors for which we apologize; work prepared and written under the occupation. Composed and printed thanks to the clandestine organization of the Brodard and Taupin workshops, completed on August 25, 1944.
author's preface: "this book was planned before 1939... a synthetic study of the unity of thought, the rigor of method and the exceptional intellectual probity of the man we already considered the most representative of our generation.... "
