Note: considering that a basic financial education is necessary, and that it would be all the more useful if it began at school, in 1923 the French Ministry of Education mandated primary school teachers to teach the first rudiments of financial education to elementary school pupils, and to integrate the practice into arithmetic lessons. Various educational publishers offered teachers dummy banknotes for this purpose. In common use until the middle of the 20th century.
