* The famous Poudrerie in Monts (37) - 6,000 employees during the 1st World War - Created in 1786 by the chemist Lavoisier, "the most beautiful poudrerie in Europe", left its mark on the city of Tours when it exploded on October 18, 1943, while being requisitioned by the German authorities (74 killed, 345 officially wounded, but the toll is still uncertain).
