France POST STRIKE OF 1909 - traveled letter, dispatched by the Banque Française pour le commerce & l'industrie, date stamp PARIS PLACE DE LA BOURSE MAY 15, 1909, on 10c red semeuse (135) - The letter has top left stamp May 15, 1909, chamber of commerce of PARIS + bottom purple stamp of the chamber of commerce of TOURS. On reverse, date stamp Tours 16/5. VERY RARE DOCUMENT. note: On May 13, 1909, the post office went on strike. This first nationwide postal strike proved particularly harsh. The strike quickly had a major impact on commerce at a time when all communications were by post. For this reason, private services were set up by chambers of commerce.
