Kusu / Hemba statuette, DRC Unlike Janiform Kabeja figures, this Lubaisé Kusu female statuette, probably linked to fertility rituals, represents the incarnation of an ancestor. Indeed, it was particularly under Hemba influence that ancestor worship was supported by statuary evoking heroes or chiefs, or the mythical ancestor Soba. Greyish-black, slightly satiny patina. Base damaged. 34 x 11 cm
