Male figure Keaka, Kaakaa or Kaka, Cameroon.Standing on thick feet, this figure with bent limbs seems to enunciate a sentence from its gaping mouth. The eyes are rectangular, the ears hollowed out into a drop, in a spherical head with a long beard. The treatment of the shoulders The piece is covered with a thick crusty patina. This type of statue was used for funerary and initiation rites. Desiccation cracks.44 x 12 cm The Kaka, or Keaka, ethnic group, so named by the German colonists, is located in a border zone between Nigeria and Cameroon. Their statuary shows a certain influence from other ethnic groups such as the Mumuye, whose statues also feature short, bent legs topped by a slender body. However, their thick, crusty patina, wide feet and wide-open mouths are typical features that distinguish them from neighboring ethnic groups.
