Boa mask, DRC ex Zaire Contrasting colors for this variant of the African kpongadomba or "Pongdudu" mask, which was supposed to make the wearer invulnerable. It was commissioned by the kumu chief, who offered it to the most valiant warrior. It was then kept in his wife's hut. Velvety patina 33 x 19 cm Sold without base Closely related to the Mangbetu and the Zande, the Boa inhabit the savannah in the north of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Some Boa are said to have used these masks to educate children since the pacification of the Uele region.
