NAPANGARDI DOROTHY (WARLPIRI). CIRCA 1950-2013 LE SEL A MINA MINA / SALT ON MINA MINA.2012. Dorothy was one of the most important Warlpiri artists from the Nyirrpi community northwest of Alice Springs in the Tamani Desert. She was killed in a car accident in the bush while on an outing to hunt lizards (goanna). She enjoyed hunting lizards (goanna) and echidnas in the traditional way. Born in Mina Mina not far from Lake Mackay, she was raised in the Aboriginal tradition and loved to live like her ancestors. Her paintings reflect this choice with the representation of her home region. Many of her paintings have been chosen by major Australian museums. In April 2013 she had been invited to Brisbane to the Exhibition and Conference Centre which had used a 600m2 carpet featuring one of her representations of the dunes of her home region. Signed on the back with reference DN 1671 Acrylic on canvas (belgian linen) size 59 x 93 cm Commissioned by Geoff Small of the studio desert art center
